    New Toy: The Bellinky Linker

    Heather / July 23, 2020 / 4 Comments

Have you heard of a linker/linking machine? Some of the hardcore knitters probably have, and probably use one. Maybe you’ve seen the Hague style – a big cylinder type thing with spikes all around the outside? Looks like a torture device or something for making sausage? Anyway, linkers are machines that are used for linking or seaming together pieces of…

So I picked up two Brothers the other day…

    Heather / July 20, 2020 / No Comments

Look at that capital B doing a LOT of heavy lifting. If you follow my Instagram you already know I am talking about knitting machines and not anything more salacious. A Brother KH940 standard gauge and a Brother KH260 chunky/bulky gauge machine both came to live with me recently. I wasn’t looking for more machines, but the ad came up…

Well well, it has been A WHILE since I last posted here. I haven’t stopped crafting, but what with the pandemic and all the insanity it has brought, along with everything else, it feels like I blinked in January and ended up in June. What has kept me so busy? Trying to help the kids do their online learning (and…

    How to Knit Reversible Jacquard

    Heather / January 16, 2020 / 2 Comments

I figured it was high time I posted another video, and since this topic is what got me interested in the Superba knitting machines in the first place, I thought we should take a look at exactly how to knit reversible jacquard. First of all – it’s easy! If you can knit fair isle, you can knit this. There’s no…

Mini Santa Hat Knitting Pattern for the Superba with GLTC

    Heather / November 24, 2019 / No Comments

Hello! It’s been a hot minute since I posted here, but I have a new pattern for you today, just in time for the holiday season. This pattern is for mini Santa hats, in two sizes, knit circular on the Superba double bed machine. It has garter stitch trim, so you’ll want the GLTC or regular transfer carriage to make…

Adjusting Sensors and Cursor Timing if SuperbaKnit is Mispatterning

    Heather / September 19, 2019 / No Comments

Hello again everyone! I didn’t get much knitting done over the summer (funny how I don’t want to be locked away in a basement making winter clothes when the sun is shining, birds singing, etc.) but some of you may know from my Instagram that our basement overhaul was finally completed, and I moved my beloved Superba knitting machine back…

    Knitting with the Superba Forma

    Heather / August 7, 2019 / No Comments

If you saw my last post, about installing the Forma, this post is probably not coming as a shock to you 😉 This video is a bit longer than my others have been, and I swear it’s cursed, because it took me about ten tries to film each chunk. However, I think it covers most of what you need to…

    The Superba Forma

    Heather / July 23, 2019 / No Comments

This green beauty is the Superba Forma. If you are not familiar with it, it is Superba’s version of a knitleader or knit radar, that is, a device that allows you to knit from a drawing of a garment instead of from written instructions. This particular unit is new to me, and I was THRILLED to find someone who had…

“RetroBrite”: Lightening up Old, Yellowed Plastics

    Heather / June 19, 2019 / No Comments

If you follow me on Instagram (and you should!) you will have seen these photos already, but I thought I’d throw a post together with some more details. More Lace Knitting on the Superba

    Heather / May 19, 2019 / No Comments

I’m back at it again, this time showing you how to knit a different lace pattern. Instead of knitting two rows and then transferring stitches back to the front bed, this style tucks three rows on the back bed, then knits through the loops, before transferring back to the front bed. The result is a different looking lace, with larger…

It took 52 file revisions and about as many test s It took 52 file revisions and about as many test stitchouts, but in the end I'm happy with this logo I digitized and stitched on puffer jackets for a corporate sponsor of a youth hockey team. It was challenging for a number of reasons, but mainly because on my ancient domestic, with a single point of attachment at the top of the hoop, the quality was getting bad at the farthest point from the arm. Rotated vertically I just could not get it to look good, so I was limited to the horizontal width of my hoop, about 5". Small text plus that teeny wrench were my next challenge, and I ended up re-digitizing the entire thing for 60wt thread to get better definition. I wish it could be bigger but I just couldn't do it currently on the equipment I have. On an industrial, and even a newer domestic with an attachment point at the side of the hoop, it likely wouldn't be an issue. Made entirely in Inkscape with Inkstitch open source embroidery software. (Plus blood sweat and tears 😆)

I haven't touched a knitting machine in months, I I haven't touched a knitting machine in months, I haven't made progress on any of my hand WIPs, my drafting is where I left it months ago, and I just realized 2025 is half over!! But then I remembered how short summer is, and looked back at some photos from the last couple months, and realized we've actually been doing a lot. Between the heat, the cold and rain, the baseball, (sometimes the cold and rain shows up surprisingly while you are AT baseball...yellow raincoat comes in clutch,) the camping, the broken appliances (thanks A/C, I will never take you for granted again), and all the other little things that make life interesting like finding turkey vultures, you just have to take a breath and look around and drink it in before it's gone. I may have been working on this sock for 6 months, but I haven't gone away!

Putting my butt on the internet for science. If th Putting my butt on the internet for science. If these pants fit in the waist and would stay up where they belong, I think they'd be quite flattering! I am currently wearing them with a belt, and will continue to do so because I made my own pants(!) even if they suffer from Crotch Droop®️ In future iterations I will definitely make the low rise, and look into grading from the hips to the waist, or perhaps a sway back adjustment? Also I hemmed them before washing like a dummy and they came out a touch shorter than I would have preferred. Still fine with Crocs though so I'm set.

Pattern is the Jalie women's stretch jeans #2908, adjusted to a more straight boot cut. The instructions were perfect, and I had really no trouble putting them together. The 5/8" keyhole buttonhole on my vintage Kenmore is thankfully the right size, and adding the button was easier than I thought, although I probably should have moved it over a touch.

Ruh roh. Ok so the extra fabric in the back yoke i Ruh roh. Ok so the extra fabric in the back yoke is definitely going to be a problem right? Also, tell me why I *always* forget I am short waisted. This pattern has a low rise and a regular that is supposed to hit at the navel, but I'm already there without the waistband. They're gonna be droopy crotch I think, unless I embrace my inner Urkel. But they aren't too small, so that's a plus. 😂😂 I think I'm just gonna keep going and make them as intended, and see what I need to adjust in future iterations. If I can't wear them I am sure I know someone who has more typical torso proportions who can 🥹 Maybe just making the low rise would have solved all this?

Much like my eyebrows, I'm going for "cousins, not Much like my eyebrows, I'm going for "cousins, not sisters" here on the back pockets of these jeans 😂 Considering this a (hopefully) wearable muslin since I didn't have enough fabric and had to a) taper the legs from their intended flare to boot cut, and b) flip the backs upside down on the fabric. I don't *think* it should matter, but maybe I'll end up with twisty pants. I've never made jeans, so hopefully I can learn a thing or two, or ten. (Like don't buy fabric 5 years before you know how much you need?) Firstly I need to rethread my Elna for 5-thread safety stitch which will probably take 3-5 business days. Jeans!
