Bulky Gauge Toddler and Child Hood Pattern

I’m going to post this here, because Ravelry is giving me a hard time. It’s a basic hood/balaclava pattern for the bulky gauge machine (with ribber) that will fit from…

    Needle Quest – Part 2

    Heather / February 9, 2022 / 2 Comments

If you read Part 1 of this series, you will know that I was on a quest for suitable needles for a Bellinky linker. They are virtually impossible to get as it turns out, and although I have a stash, they won’t last forever, and other people are in need of them as well. I won’t keep you reading for…

    Needle Quest

    Heather / February 2, 2022 / 2 Comments

That’s what I’m calling what I did yesterday. Over the last while, I have heard from several people looking to buy spare needles for their Bellinky linker. And there is a shop that I have directed them to, where I myself bought some of the needles after an internet search, but they are out of the size 22. What I…

    Insert Industrial Revolution Pun Here

    Heather / May 28, 2021 / No Comments

My brain hurts, make your own pun for the title. It’s like choose your own adventure! So as the weather changes, and my natural crafty inclinations swing back toward sewing, I’ve been hard at work making spring/summer things for the kids and myself. If you’ve been following my Instagram, you’ll have seen the monstrous piece of cotton fleece I ice…

    Ten-Minute Dishcloth

    Heather / May 2, 2021 / No Comments

This is a pattern I came up with out of necessity. What do you do when all the dishcloths are dirty or have wandered away, the washing machine is full, the dryer is broken, and you just want to clean something? Well in my case, you make a dishcloth. OK that, plus I have a lot of worsted weight cotton…

Three Colour, Single Row Height DBJ on the Brother and Superba – Part 2

    Heather / March 22, 2021 / No Comments

Well if you read Part 1, you will know that I had found a method for knitting single row height double-bed jacquard, on the Superba, via a couple of different methods, but not the “offset” method that would, a) keep all the colour changes on the same side of the bed, ultimately allowing for, b) use of a colour changer.…

Three Colour, Single Row Height DBJ on the Brother and Superba – Part 1

    Heather / March 21, 2021 / 1 Comment

Recently I started exploring double-bed jacquard (DBJ) on the Brother 940 in more detail. I had only played with it a couple of times to knit a couple of the two-colour patterns from Stitchworld, as a test when I first got the machine. Recently while flipping through Stitchworld, I noticed a couple of beautiful three-colour patterns that are in there,…

    Buttonholes, and More Buttonholes

    Heather / February 26, 2021 / No Comments

I don’t know why, but I love to make buttonholes. I think it’s because I was afraid of them for so long, and never used them. I would use grommets, snaps – anything to avoid making buttonholes on garments, but since I got over that fear, all I want to do is make buttonholes. And I have discovered that this…

    Heather / August 20, 2020 / No Comments

You aren’t experiencing déjà vu, I have actually blogged about this very topic before. But I needed to do some of the pieces on my new Brother machines, and since I always get a lot of questions about the process, figured I might as well make a video. It still works amazingly well. Case in point: It’s a simple, inexpensive…

It took 52 file revisions and about as many test s It took 52 file revisions and about as many test stitchouts, but in the end I'm happy with this logo I digitized and stitched on puffer jackets for a corporate sponsor of a youth hockey team. It was challenging for a number of reasons, but mainly because on my ancient domestic, with a single point of attachment at the top of the hoop, the quality was getting bad at the farthest point from the arm. Rotated vertically I just could not get it to look good, so I was limited to the horizontal width of my hoop, about 5". Small text plus that teeny wrench were my next challenge, and I ended up re-digitizing the entire thing for 60wt thread to get better definition. I wish it could be bigger but I just couldn't do it currently on the equipment I have. On an industrial, and even a newer domestic with an attachment point at the side of the hoop, it likely wouldn't be an issue. Made entirely in Inkscape with Inkstitch open source embroidery software. (Plus blood sweat and tears 😆)

I haven't touched a knitting machine in months, I I haven't touched a knitting machine in months, I haven't made progress on any of my hand WIPs, my drafting is where I left it months ago, and I just realized 2025 is half over!! But then I remembered how short summer is, and looked back at some photos from the last couple months, and realized we've actually been doing a lot. Between the heat, the cold and rain, the baseball, (sometimes the cold and rain shows up surprisingly while you are AT baseball...yellow raincoat comes in clutch,) the camping, the broken appliances (thanks A/C, I will never take you for granted again), and all the other little things that make life interesting like finding turkey vultures, you just have to take a breath and look around and drink it in before it's gone. I may have been working on this sock for 6 months, but I haven't gone away!

Putting my butt on the internet for science. If th Putting my butt on the internet for science. If these pants fit in the waist and would stay up where they belong, I think they'd be quite flattering! I am currently wearing them with a belt, and will continue to do so because I made my own pants(!) even if they suffer from Crotch Droop®️ In future iterations I will definitely make the low rise, and look into grading from the hips to the waist, or perhaps a sway back adjustment? Also I hemmed them before washing like a dummy and they came out a touch shorter than I would have preferred. Still fine with Crocs though so I'm set.

Pattern is the Jalie women's stretch jeans #2908, adjusted to a more straight boot cut. The instructions were perfect, and I had really no trouble putting them together. The 5/8" keyhole buttonhole on my vintage Kenmore is thankfully the right size, and adding the button was easier than I thought, although I probably should have moved it over a touch.

Ruh roh. Ok so the extra fabric in the back yoke i Ruh roh. Ok so the extra fabric in the back yoke is definitely going to be a problem right? Also, tell me why I *always* forget I am short waisted. This pattern has a low rise and a regular that is supposed to hit at the navel, but I'm already there without the waistband. They're gonna be droopy crotch I think, unless I embrace my inner Urkel. But they aren't too small, so that's a plus. 😂😂 I think I'm just gonna keep going and make them as intended, and see what I need to adjust in future iterations. If I can't wear them I am sure I know someone who has more typical torso proportions who can 🥹 Maybe just making the low rise would have solved all this?

Much like my eyebrows, I'm going for "cousins, not Much like my eyebrows, I'm going for "cousins, not sisters" here on the back pockets of these jeans 😂 Considering this a (hopefully) wearable muslin since I didn't have enough fabric and had to a) taper the legs from their intended flare to boot cut, and b) flip the backs upside down on the fabric. I don't *think* it should matter, but maybe I'll end up with twisty pants. I've never made jeans, so hopefully I can learn a thing or two, or ten. (Like don't buy fabric 5 years before you know how much you need?) Firstly I need to rethread my Elna for 5-thread safety stitch which will probably take 3-5 business days. Jeans!
